Are you a high-capacity leader with a passion for serving and leading teams?

Are you a self-starter with the tenacity of a bulldog when it comes to overseeing projects?

Do you have an analytical and systems mindset with the ability to build successful teams?

Are you an out-of-the-box thinker who thrives in a team environment?

If so, you just might be “the one” we’ve been looking for! (full details of this job description at ImagineChurch.com/jobs)

Imagine Church is a creative, growing church plant with a big vision to help people in our community discover and live out God’s plan for their life. Imagine was launched from scratch in 2011 and, because of our continued growth, we are looking for someone to join our creative and eclectic team to help us continue to reach those in this community we are called to serve.

The primary purpose of this role will be to provide leadership to our volunteer teams and offer innovative and sustainable solutions for growth and discipleship.

This job is not for in-the-box thinkers or the faint of heart! At Imagine, we embrace change and meet challenges head on. We’re a portable church plant so you’re just as likely to be setting up chairs in the school auditorium where we meet as you are meeting with leaders or strategizing over coffee.

Church planting is not easy, and, to be perfectly honest, if you’re looking for a less challenging ministry position with more specific job responsibilities, there are plenty of more established churches out there with better pay and worship auditoriums you don’t have to set up and tear down every week. However, if you scoff at mediocrity and aren’t afraid to fail forward, if you enjoy seeing a new church grow and people come to faith right before your eyes, if you aren’t afraid to risk big for God…you just might be who we’re looking for.

Imagine Church is located in Westfield, Indiana, a growing community on the north side of Indianapolis. Westfield is in Hamilton County – one of the top-20 fastest-growing counties in the country. The city of Westfield has tripled in size in the last 10 years and has been consistently rated as one of the best places to live by Forbes and Money Magazine. Westfield is the home of the Grand Park (under construction), one of the largest outdoor family sports complexes in the Midwest.

This is not a job for the faint of heart. We’re looking for someone who is totally reliant of the Holy Spirit and willing to do the hard work of helping to plant a church. This is a part-time position that will move into full-time as we grow.

Your job will be to facilitate a worship lifestyle in the large group gatherings, small group gatherings and the lives of the members of the church. For now that means leading worship with the large group, working with the planting pastor to develop series and worship plans and building a team of people to lead in worship.

We love the theology of the hymns and the sounds of modern music. We are looking to develop a sound that is suited to our city and speaks in a language they can understand.

We are deeply committed to seeing this church planted and rooted, spreading the gospel to those who need to hear it. There are about 70,000 people who live in our valley and only 3,000 of them are connected to a Bible-teaching, evangelical church! That means that 9.7 out of every 10 people need to hear the gospel! We are going to share with as many as we can! And we need your help.

We are home to Idaho State University, a 4-year university know for it’s engineering and health/medical services programs. With just under 15,000 students it’s a highly underserved community of people.

If you love the outdoors this is the place, 100 miles of mountain biking within the city limits, 2 hours to Yellowstone National Park, skiing (downhill and cross-country), fishing, hunting and more. These are the things that our community loves and the things we love.

If you’re interested we want to talk. Send an email to aaronfloyd3 [at] gmail [dot]com and we’ll set it up.

Check us out at mission church.co; and check out Pocatello at visitpocatello.com

Rick Howerton writes: One of the most important things a senior pastor does is hire a staff member. Once a person is on the team, it’s difficult and painful to let them go, especially since the senior pastor was the one who made the hire. When a senior pastor makes a bad hire it reflects that pastor’s reputation. On the other side of the issue… When a senior pastor finds and hires the right person, that area of ministry flourishes and the senior pastor gains the respect of the church.

Rick gives us some practical advice on how to keep our own biases in check when we hire new church employees. Here are some different types of biases that we need to watch out for:

The bias of our own stereotypes. It’s so very easy to look at individuals not as individual persons rather as a person who fits a particular stereotype, a stereotype that is implanted in a Senior Pastor’s mind. A senior pastor might believe, because a person has been involved in a particular activity, that they will flourish in a particular role.

2. The bias of our own gender. Because many of us subconsciously hold to “the good ol’ boy” or “good ol’ gal” syndrome it is important that a leader, when making a hire, be purposeful in taking a close, maybe even a closer, look at those who are of the opposite gender than themselves.

3. The bias of our own school of training. If we’re honest, at many of our seminaries there is an undeclared pecking order. Those in the school of theology were deemed the most elite, followed by those in the school of education, then the musicians in the school of music, then the school of student ministry, and finally, those persons studying to lead a Children’s ministry.

4. The age bias. There seems to be a bias in ministry circles today, a bias like I have never seen in my lifetime. Bottom line… “Hire young.” I am often contacted by church head-hunters in search of possibilities to fill various positions. One of the executive search guys I was talking with was willing to answer my questions. I asked him, “How many churches tell you they want someone under 50 years of age and that you needn’t send them anyone over 50?” I was astounded by his response. He said, “Rick, the churches that call me won’t look at anyone who is over 39.” While each church gets to make its own call concerning this issue, it might be wise to consider that along with age comes experience, wisdom, and the ability to relate to the life situations almost all your church members will face, as those of age have already raised a family, dealt with many of the stages of life, and have a library of knowledge concerning the emotions that accompany the pains of life.
